95 North 100 West Street
Brigham Young was given all of block 20 in the first Survey
in 1873and so it was known as Brigham’s Block. Brigham Young’s daughter received this block in the
settlement of his estate, and sold it in 1879 to Laurence Mariger. It was after 1882 that the north half
of the house was built. The house
was sold to Eliza Stewart, wife of John Riley Stewart, in 1891, and is thought
that the south half of the house was built shortly after. An interesting feature is the
beautifully kept hand painted woodwork to look like oak, and the hidden stairs
and hiding places that were used during the polygamy persecution period. The present owner is Bain Swapp.
